Saab Ignition System Service Tips
Make sure that the vacuum advance diaphram is not punctured.
Replace your Ignition Coil - Make sure that your Saab’s ignition coil is up to snuff. One way to test the high voltage side is with a timing light. If it is not flashing brightly then your coil is weak. So if the light is not bright enough to light up the timing marks, you probably need a new ignition coil which are not that expensive and easy to replace.
Adjust the ignition timing for proper performance. This can make a significant difference.
Vacuum leaks in the intake side of the engine can be misdiagnosed as ignition problems.
Check ignition wires (distributor to spark plugs) with a digital ohm meter to determine serviceability. Replace if resistance is out of specification.
Once a spark plug is fouled it is trashed. Do not clean spark plugs with a wire brush.
Always check the gap on spark plugs you install in your car. Spark plugs are pre-gapped at the factory, the problem with this is it is not the specification for your car!
Use a torque wrench to install plugs that way you get the proper torque for sealing the plugs yet don’t strip the threads.
