• Keep your battery terminals clean and the connections tight.  Do not over tighten!
• The battery should not be allowed to run dry.  Top off with distilled water if possible.
• If replacing the alternator, replace the alternator bushings and belts as required.  If marginal at all, replace at the same time.
• If the alternator bearings and bushings are good the regulator and brush assembly can be replaced without removing the alternator.
• Belts are important and can affect the operation of the system as worn and glazed belts can slip as well as make noise.  Replacing belts on a regular schedule will prevent this as well as guarantee that you won’t be stranded by a broken belt.
